You tell me [pt. II]
"Faith is not a feeling. It is a decision."
(Father Jan Kolodynski, 2006)
de·ci·sion
Pronunciation: di-'si-zh&n
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle French, from Latin decision-, decisio, from decidere to decide
1: a) the act or process of deciding b) a determination arrived at after consideration : CONCLUSION
2: a report of a conclusion
3: promptness and firmness in deciding : DETERMINATION
4: a) WIN; specifically : a victory in boxing decided on points b) a win or loss officially credited to a pitcher in baseball
source: Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary
http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/decision
In order to arrive at any decision, there must be CHOICE; and herein lies the PROBLEM. It is this ability to CHOOSE, or to decide (with conviction), that supposedly separates animal from man. That is not to say that animals do not possess the ability to make decisions or that it is the one and only distinction between the two types of beings. But rather, for simplicity's sake, a means of classification/identification.
With that said, how do we make decisions? What is taken into consideration? When determining WHY we make the decisions we do, we must understand the HOW.
Although the process of decision-making is unique to every individual, a decision is typically based upon a variety of factors:
1) benefits
2) moral implications (a direct result of upbringing and social surroundings)
3) short/long term consequences
4) alternative choices
and the list goes on. Where do we draw the line between CHOOSING and CHOSEN? What if many of the decisions that we believe we are making (of our own free will) have been coerced by the very idea of FREEDOM itself? What exactly does it mean to be free and at what cost does this come?
All things aside, a decision is made on the basis of right or wrong. What is right to some can be terribly wrong to others and vice versa. How can we know for sure?
Like Cypher, I CHOOSE The MATRIX.

You tell me
"Love is not a feeling. It is a decision."
(Father Jan Kolodynski, 2006)
If this is true, is there a difference between loving someone and being in love with someone? In terms of the former, to love is to care for unconditionally. In this sense of the word, it is a decision. In terms of the latter, to be in love is an experience (or feeling) that, more often than not, cannot be controlled.
So what exactly is love? Can it be described? If so, would the description be relevant to an 'experience' other than your own?
How does the recipient of this word interpret its intended meaning? Similarly, how do you convey an understanding? Love is a very powerful term that is used with a little too much ease.
Isn't it ironic that love is such a difficult thing (for lack of a better word) to experience/discuss/decide?

Narcoleptic Insomnia
"Are we sleep-walking through our waking state or
wake-walking through our dreams?"
(Waking Life, 2001)
Is it possible to be in two places at the same time?
This is not a simple yes or no answer.
The mind and body can co-exist independently of each other.
Does the body control the mind? Or vice versa?
How does the mind function?
It operates on electrical impulses created by the body.
OR...
How does the body operate?
The mind acts like a slave-driver, delineating specific functions to various parts of the body.
So it is, as they say:
The body cannot survive without the mind just as the mind cannot survive without the body.
The MATRIX? Or the real world? The problem is choice.

Perception
"Talking about love is like dancing about architecture."
(Playing By Heart, 1998)
The same sort of sentiment can be used when attempting to understand visual interpretation. I've said this before but I'll say it again. We all perceive images differently.
It is not a matter of questioning the artistic value or purpose of a photo, painting, sculpture, etc. But rather, asking yourself, "does this speak to me?"
The photos posted on this blog are, in part, a representation of how I perceive the world. Behind every image is a story, some more detailed than others.
These images have the ability to interact with their viewers.
WHAT DO THEY SAY TO YOU?

In search of...
Elusive.
Unattainable to most.
Necessary?
Seeking.
The answer
Or the question.
Following
Or creating.
The path to

"1/4-Life Crisis"
A number of my esteemed peers seem to be at the point in life where one QUESTIONS his/her role in society.
Why does my job suck so much?
Why aren't I making more money?
Why don't I drive a nicer car (or a car for that matter)?
Why don't I have a nicer place?
How do I aquire satisfaction?
Solution? If only it were that easy.
A wise man once said that patience is a virtue. He probably wasn't stuck in the grind. For now, I remain a SLAVE for a pay cheque.

1000 words (or less)
IMAGES speak to us. They say different things depending on who is listening.
Is a picture worth 1000 words? YES.
However, for simplicity's sake, I often prefer to use one or two words to describe an image.
Ironically, finding the right word can be anything but simple.
